Scarlett Johansson Campaigned to be Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson admits she was grim and determined to bag the role in Iron Man 2 , which forced herself to get hooked with comic books to impress the producers of the movie.

Scarlett Johansson will protray the role of the comic character. A sexy Russian spy named Black Widow. She admitted that she actively campaigned to get that meaty role, which was supposed to be played by actress Emily Blunt — who dropped out due to conflicts in her schedule.Scarlett shared that:

"I was a huge fan of the first movie and was quite ‘geek-ed’ out at being part of the second one. I just wanted to be a part of ‘Iron Man’ so I really researched the comic books and came in with some ideas of my own about how to develop the character. I see her as being determined and ambitious."

Moreover, she explained that:

"I love everything about this character. She’s a total bada*s. I love every detail from her fabulous outfit to the wonderful hair. I mean, there’s nothing not to like about the character. She’s very bad and I think it’s rare that we get to see these sort of super heroines bought to the screen, where they’re really kicking some major a*s, which she does."

Scarlett Johansson wants to do challenging work

She has been working in the showbiz since her childhood but Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson feels that she is ready for more challenging roles after turning 25.

Scarlett, who stars in the upcoming Iron Man 2, first found fame as a lead seven years ago with Lost In Translation, the V magazine reported.

'I'm 25, and for some time I've played these characters who are kind of figuring it out, transforming from young girls to young women. I don't feel like a girl anymore. And I feel like my life and career are on a different path than they had been," said Johansson."There's a lot of road behind me. I feel at this point I really want to do work that is challenging to me. Not to say that I don't look at my job and realize that I'm ridiculously fortunate, and purely an actor for hire. You never forget that it's all so vulnerable," said the actress.

Scarlett Johansson Denies Learning Lucha Libre For 'Iron Man 2'

In the Paramount-sanctioned press notes for "Iron Man 2," director Jon Favreau goes on at length about star Scarlett Johansson's commitment to training for her Black Widow fight scenes by learning all manner of combat styles. "The biggest one was lucha libre, a Mexican wrestling style of fighting that seemed silly when they first mentioned it to me," Favreau said in the notes referring to the fighting many Americans recognize from Jack Black's "Nacho Libre." "I thought it was a little comical with all of the swinging around, flips, holds and acrobatic moves, but when you see a woman doing it in the Black Widow costume, and it's not a pot-bellied wrestler with a mask, it has a much different effect."

That's a great story; if only it were true. Johansson herself set the record straight for MTV News. "That is totally untrue," she laughed. "I don't know where that came from." But it was in the press notes! Favreau said it himself!

"He's insane," she said. "I don't know what he's talking about. That never happened. I'm going to have to have a word with him afterwards."

That's not to say she didn't do any training at all. The 25-year-old actress learned elements of gymnastics, Muay Thai kick-boxing and regular boxing before taking on her own wire-assisted stunt work. "But no Mexican wrestling," she said. "That's my next picture!

"It was a bit daunting at first, especially when I was watching whatever Tom Harper, our stunt coordinator, had cut together, these sequences that he was planning and choreographing," she explained. "It was like, 'I'm going to be doing that in how many months?' It just seemed like it'd be really painful. And it was. It all paid off in the end."
