Rumor has it that Selena Gomez has seriously infuriated her parental units by discarding her purity ring and, even worse, proceeding to hook up with Justin Bieber.
“When the ring came off, Selena’s parents became unglued,” tattled an insider―which is somewhat understandable, since the purity ring was a gift from Selena's dad, and she'd been wearing it since she was 12 years old.According to Showbiz Spy, once things started to get more serious―or at least hotter and heavier―with Justin, Selena began to wear the purity ring less often, until it finally disappeared from her finger.
Gomez's parents' anger over their daughter's hook-up with the Biebs has nothing to do with disliking him. In fact, they don't disapprove of Selena and Justin dating. They are, however, "very conservative people and they’d be heartsick if she did something with him that she’d later regret." Right.
Apparently, Selena's parents are more than just concerned, angry and "disappointed." They've even enlisted the aid of people in Selena's entourage to report back to them about when and where she slips away to spend time with Justin. This is causing a rift between Selena and her family, because the 18-year-old Disney star reportedly hates being spied on.
She has every right to resent being spied on. Selena Gomez is an adult who earns her own living and receives no financial support from her parents. She is therefore free to do as she pleases with whomever she pleases as long as she does nothing illegal. Only in a society that doggedly attempts to prolong adolescence in females, would Gomez's hook-up with Justin Bieber or anyone else be an issue.
Only in a culture as "morally" misguided, not to mention as misogynistic as ours, would the consensual "loss" of an 18-year-old woman's virginity be considered regrettable. Imagine this scenario in reverse. Would anyone consider the loss of Justin Bieber's virginity something that he would later regret? Answer: a resounding no.
