For awhile, the movie seemed to be independently produced by John Malkovich but no studios had come forward to pick up the project. Although there is no formal announcement on Summit’s decision to pick up the film, there are rumors that one could come as early as next week.
Summit Wants Emma Watson and The PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER
The widely anticipated PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, starring Harry Potter’s Emma Watson, may have finally found its distributor. According to Vulture, Summit Entertainment (home of the Twilight franchise) is in talks to pick up the movie which could start filming as early as this coming June. Watson has been attached to the project since last May, when news broke that she would be starring in the film along with actor Logan Lerman. The movie is based on an adaptation of the novel by Stephen Chbosky, which, interestingly enough, Chbosky will direct himself from his own script. It focuses on a high school freshman named Charlie (Lerman) who writes writing anonymous letters to strangers about his life as a social outcast, with the exception of his friendship with a stepbrother and a stepsister (Watson.)
